Award for scientific work by Mr. Armin Heinrichsdobler
At this year's SPIE conference in San Diego, Mr. Armin Heinrichsdobler (Ph.D. student at OSRAM OLED GmbH and Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg) received the first prize in the category "Best Student Paper". The title of his publication is "Inkjet-printed polymer-based scattering layers for enhanced light out coupling from top-emitting organic light-emitting diodes". We congratulate him on this great result!
In the last few years, he worked on the structured deposition of materials in respect of low-cost processes and introduced inkjet printing into the OLED development. One of the sub-themes was the structured deposition of internal light extraction layers (IEL layers). A significant enhancement of the materials and processes has been achieved, which is also described in his paper.
OSRAM OLED at ISAL 2017 in Darmstadt
OSRAM OLED GmbH will participate at the International Symposium on Automotive Lighting (ISAL) and exhibit OLED rear lights, which are already in automotive serial production. We are looking forward to meeting automotive experts at this Symposium from 25th to 27th 2017 of September in Darmstadt/Germany.
OSRAM OLED at CES 2017 in Las Vegas
From 5th to 8th Jan 2017, OSRAM showed the OLED Technology at CES in Las Vegas. Original OLED-rear lights of BMW M4 GTS and Audi TT RS were presented. At the same time, there was a bendable OLED rear light from the R2D2 project in cooperation with AUDI, HELLA and BMBF.
Dr. Nina Riegel held a talk about "Status and perspective of OLEDs in the automotive application".
New Audi TT RS with OLED technology from Osram
With the new rear light lighting solution Osram once again underlines its role as an innovation leader in automotive lighting
The new rear lights for the new Audi TT RS feature OLEDs (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) from lighting manufacturer Osram – currently the only company to offer this innovative lighting technology for automotive applications. The organic area light sources are highly flexible and enable innovative design solutions for the automotive sector.
“We are delighted that our OLEDs in the new Audi TT RS are now used in a large volume production vehicle,” said Hans-Joachim Schwabe, CEO Specialty Lighting at Osram, describing the lighting manufacturer’s pioneering role in the OLED business.
Osram supplies OLED technology for German premium car manufacturer
As an innovation leader, Osram offers exceptional technical know-how in the automotive sector.
Once again, pioneering lighting technology from Osram is being fitted to a production vehicle. This time it is OLED technology (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) in the tail lights of the new BMW M4 GTS. These organic area light sources take up very little space, opening up design options that car manufacturers have so far only dreamed about.
“Our OLEDs in the tail lights of the BMW M4 GTS make us the first company to have this new technology on the road in a production vehicle. Yet again we are demonstrating our pioneering role in the automotive sector.” That is how Hans-Joachim Schwabe, CEO Specialty Lighting at Osram, summarized the position of the lighting manufacturer in the OLED business.

OLED in Automotive Lighting: Opportunities & Challenges
09.24.2015 Conference talk „Status and Prospects of OLED Lighting Technology” at the Plastic Electronics 2015
OLED researcher Dr. Arne Fleißner will talk at the Plastic Electronics conference about „Status and Prospects of OLED Lighting Technology." He will present the recent progress in the area of flexible OLEDs that provides an encouraging view on the prospects of OLED lighting with a thin and flexible form factor. Special attention will be paid to the results of the BMBF-funded R2D2 research project, in which partners along the complete value chain from materials research to end users have been working on production capable processes and technologies for flexible OLEDs. Within this project, OSRAM OLED has scaled up the sheet-to-sheet manufacturing of metal-foil based OLEDs which have then been evaluated by automotive end-users in modulisation tests. The conference will take place in Dresden on October 8th 2015.
